The other day I saw a cool Mr. Beast video which featured an extremely futuristic ten-million-dollar concept car inspired by the animals of Pandora, the fantastical planet and home to the Na’vi, from James Cameron’s 2009 film Avatar. The car has scales embedded in the body which react flex and fluctuate hypnotically when touched by a human. The car is compared more to a creature by one of its creators. On Pandora everything natural is connected by the mother-natured force “Eywa”, and the Na’vi themselves can literally connect to them physically, emotionallyand spiritually. I want to create an art piece inspired by these creatures as well. I want to build to structure, perhaps an animal or creature, and have lights embedded all throughout, perhaps some light strips, or classmate Joseph mentioned some fancy light strip with patterns that I forget the name right now. When playing around with boards we had made a cool set up with the light sensitive sensor which changed the color and brightness of an RGB LED. I think the pattern in the lights could fluctuate based on an external “flashlight”, which I could decorate to fit the piece, as well. When the viewer moves the light over the piece, the lights could blink or change color, mimicking the cohesive interaction between Na’vi and animal planet of Pandora. I may use motion sensors instead, so the observer can change the appearance with the wave of a hand. I am thinking painted paper mache around a solid frame for the structure, hiding the circuits, with wires running to the lights or light strips exposed through holes in the “skin” I am going to need lots of assistance from AI to help me work out my boards and code as this is all very new to me, but I think the idea is conceptually there and I’ll be able to flesh it out more as I go.
