Project 2: Soundscape Artist Statement

For this project, I carefully put together an engaging soundscape using original recordings from me and my classmates. Each of us shared five unique sounds, which we combined into one folder. Following instructions, I picked five of my own recordings and mixed in five others using Adobe Audition.

My main goal was to create a captivating rhythm and atmosphere. I chose sounds like a bouncing basketball, a punching bag hit, and ice tinkling in a glass. I also added ambient room noise to give it depth.

Using Adobe Audition, I experimented with effects to make the soundscape mysterious. Reversing audio clips and fading them in and out worked well. For example, I distorted the sound of a flushing toilet to make it sound like a UFO.

I also played around with the rhythm, using a snare drum repeated in triplets at different pitches to add complexity.

Even though I'm still learning Adobe Audition, I felt more comfortable with it after this project. It has a lot of buttons and features, which can be overwhelming at first. But I'm excited to keep practicing because I can see how it opens up so many creative possibilities. Mastering this software will help me create even more interesting soundscapes in the future.
